TRAMA arquitetos was entrusted by a young family deeply passionate about architecture to bring to life a project that embodies the essence of their architectural DNA. Central to the brief was not only the creation of a harmonious design but also a meticulous attention to spatial details. The goal was to astonish, seamlessly integrating the exterior surroundings with the interior environment to evoke sensations while ensuring practical functionality.
Nature-Inspired Design
Named after the indigenous vegetation that played a pivotal role in its conception, the Cork Trees House is nestled within a grove of ancient cork oak trees on a gently sloping terrain. The design prioritized optimal sun exposure and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, seamlessly blending the built environment with the natural landscape.
Floating Garden Concept
Drawing inspiration from the canopy of the cork trees, the architects envisioned the house as a floating garden on the horizon. The functional single-floor plan spans almost the entire width of the plot, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Raw and natural materials such as concrete, stone, wood, and steel were carefully selected to harmonize with the natural surroundings.
Timeless Harmony
Externally, exposed concrete subtly merges with natural shale and weathered corten steel, creating a dialogue between the built form and the landscape. Internally, walnut wood adds warmth and complements the roman travertine marble flooring and exposed concrete ceilings. The result is a harmonious architectural composition that not only blends seamlessly with its environment but also stands the test of time.
Conclusion
The Cork Trees House exemplifies TRAMA arquitetos’ commitment to creating architectural masterpieces that not only embrace nature but also celebrate the intrinsic beauty of the built environment. Through meticulous attention to detail and a thoughtful selection of materials, the project achieves a timeless elegance that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings, providing a serene and inviting sanctuary for its inhabitants.
