Introduction
Elderly Care Skärvet forms an integral part of the Skärvet city block, serving as the cornerstone of the emerging Bäckaslöv urban district in Växjö. Developed along the railway line connecting the city center to Lake Norra Bergundasjön, this L-shaped building marks the first phase of the project, offering a blend of housing tenures within a vibrant, shared courtyard.
Centralized Layout Organization
The layout of the facility revolves around a central hub, housing common and neutral areas, with individual departments situated in separate wings. Each department features a spacious dining and living room at its core, flooded with natural light streaming in through large windows and lofty ceiling heights, creating inviting and comfortable environments for residents.
Social Interaction Spaces
In addition to residential areas, the facility boasts various common amenities, including an assembly hall, conservatory, physiotherapy facility, and a rooftop greenhouse offering panoramic views of the courtyard and surrounding green spaces. These spaces encourage social interaction and engagement among residents, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
Dynamic Façade Design
The design of the building’s façade is intricately linked to its construction process, with a deliberate emphasis on variation and texture. By employing multiple joints and combining four sections featuring different tile patterns, the façade resembles a textile pattern or a crocheted tablecloth, adding visual interest and character to the structure. Copper-colored metal sheets accentuate entrances, windows, and roofs, infusing warmth and richness into the overall aesthetic. Moreover, the building is designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification and Skanska’s top-level environmental classification, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness.
In conclusion, Elderly Care Skärvet stands as a testament to innovative design and thoughtful planning, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for elderly residents while contributing to the vitality and liveliness of the surrounding community.
