Introduction
The Adisaptagram Workshop, a brainchild of Abin Design Studio (ADS), serves as a hub for tapping into the untapped potential of talented individuals in peri-urban areas. This workshop not only supports ADS’s professional endeavors but also provides valuable job opportunities and financial stability to the local community. It stands as a testament to ADS’s commitment to celebrating love, labor, and dedication in realizing various architectural structures.
Establishment and Expansion
Conceived as a collaborative venture between ADS and the local community, the workshop aims to provide stable employment while supporting the studio’s explorative and execution works. Located in Adisaptagram, the workshop has already employed 20 locals within its first year of operation, signaling its success. Currently, ADS is undertaking a significant expansion of the workshop to accommodate more workers and facilitate further job creation opportunities.
Programmatic Concept
The proposed workshop extension is designed to facilitate collaboration and exploration in various building techniques, including carpentry, metalwork, and material research. It will feature exhibition spaces and workspaces for supervisors, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and skill development among craftsmen and stakeholders.
Architectural Features
Designed with environmental considerations in mind, the workshop takes advantage of natural elements such as wind direction and evaporative cooling from nearby ponds. The building’s facade is strategically designed to block harsh sunlight while promoting cross ventilation and creating comfortable resting spaces for workers. Sleek projections along the facade provide insulation and ventilation, ensuring a conducive working environment.
Spatial Layout
Upon entering the building, visitors are greeted by double-height workshop spaces arranged in an open plan layout, promoting flexibility and interaction. A central catwalk acts as a visual axis, guiding visitors towards exhibition spaces and meeting areas located at the southwest side of the building. Additionally, green courtyards provide tranquil spaces for relaxation, enhancing the overall user experience.
Conclusion
The Adisaptagram Workshop stands as a beacon of collaboration, innovation, and community development. Through its establishment, ADS has not only expanded its professional practice but has also made significant contributions to the local economy and society. As the workshop continues to grow and evolve, it promises to remain a cornerstone of creativity and collaboration in the region.
