This innovative project expands the traditional location of Mühle GmbH & Co.KG, a family business renowned for producing premium shaving products since 1945.
Architects and Visionaries
Led by Sebastian Thaut, Silvia Schellenberg-Thaut, and Johannes Wilde, Atelier ST | Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH envisioned a replacement building, Hall 4, that seamlessly integrates into the existing factory complex while asserting its distinctive identity. The architects aimed to convey the intrinsic value of Mühle’s products through the design language of the building.
Architectural Design
At first glance, the Mühle Shaving Offices appear as a simple industrial structure. However, upon closer examination, the building reveals a captivating allure, characterized by finely shimmering glass facades and meticulously crafted aluminum profiles. This juxtaposition of materials symbolizes the synthesis of tradition and modernity.
Sustainable Features
In line with conscious building practices and the ethos of sustainability, the architects prioritized renewable materials and energy-efficient systems. All structural components, including supports, beams, and ceilings, are crafted from wood sourced from the nearby Ore Mountains. Additionally, a geothermal heat pump provides heating for the building, while photovoltaic elements on the green roof generate electricity, minimizing the environmental footprint of the facility.
Functional Layout
The hall is strategically divided into a high one-story production section and a smaller two-story segment housing offices and administrative spaces. Natural light permeates the interior through the transparent glass facades, offering glimpses into the production process and fostering a connection with the surrounding landscape.
