The transformation of Pepe Rosas’ house, once belonging to a prominent flamenco singer, has birthed the Aljibes Viewpoint, nestled in the heart of Álora’s historic center. This architectural endeavor has created an urban void offering breathtaking vistas of an archaeological industrial space dating back to the 16th century and the iconic Arab castle.

Unveiling Historical Traces

Excavations unearthed intriguing spaces within the viewpoint. The southern area houses three storage rooms adorned with seventeen semi-buried jars from the 16th century, while the northern section features traditional animal stairs leading to a horse shed. Descending further reveals a second level with captivating views of the village, creating an immersive experience of uncovering past remnants.

WaterScales Architects’ vision for the Aljibes Viewpoint revolves around honoring Álora’s historical legacy while fostering a connection with its textures, materials, spaces, and views. The façade, characterized by a thick white brick wall, pays homage to the city’s architectural lineage and conceals a mysterious inner space awaiting discovery.

Guided Exploration

Upon entering, visitors encounter a metallic runway, a transparent platform offering glimpses into the underground store spaces and panoramic views of the horizon. Perforated texts provide insights into nearby landmarks, while aerial markers highlight significant features such as the castle and hills.
