By SolidNature collaborated with OMA for its second appearance at the Milan Design Week, tasking them with creating an installation that delves into the transformation of natural stone from its geological origins to its final form.
Immersive Experience
Set within the historic Casa Maveri in the Brera District, the exhibition unfolds across two distinct sections. The underground portion takes visitors on a journey through the formation, extraction, and processing of stone, enveloping them in the raw beauty of large, rough slabs that line the rooms. Above ground, the palazzo’s garden serves as an open-air gallery, showcasing stone furniture crafted by invited artists.
From Earth to Art
In the basement, the stone acts as a metaphorical passage beneath the Earth’s crust, while in the garden, it serves as a versatile backdrop for various activities held throughout the week. The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces allows visitors to immerse themselves in the essence of natural stone.
Harmonious Connection
Connecting the two realms is a striking sky-blue onyx volume housing a staircase crafted from multicolored marble. This architectural element not only serves as a physical link but also symbolizes the interplay between natural elements and human intervention.
