Introduction to the Project
Red Planet, designed by 100architects, is a groundbreaking public space intervention located within the vibrant Life Hub @ Daning development in Shanghai. The project aims to transform the open-air Retail Street into a dynamic and immersive environment, enhancing the overall experience for visitors and shoppers alike.
Design Concept
The marketing team behind Life Hub @ Daning sought an imaginative and innovative installation that would engage both children and adults, turning a mere circulation area into a captivating destination. 100architects embraced a surreal approach, breaking conventional rules of perception to create an unexpected and immersive experience. The Red Planet is not just a playground but a whimsical landscape designed to stimulate imagination and creativity.
Features and Elements
At the heart of the Red Planet is a bubbling basketball field, reimagined as a surreal playground with artificial topography for various activities such as playing, climbing, sliding, and more. The installation also includes a bent basketball basket adorned with LED lights, adding to the enchanting atmosphere of the space. Surrounding the basketball field is a racing track that defines the border of the installation, along with chalkboard pyramids serving as obstacles and creativity platforms.
Enhancing the Experience
To further enhance the immersive experience, 100architects applied a monochromatic treatment with shades of red to existing urban furniture and decorative elements within the space. This cohesive design approach aims to transport visitors to the surreal landscape of the “Red Planet,” encouraging them to engage in spontaneous play and exploration.
Conclusion
The Red Planet stands as a testament to the power of imaginative design in transforming public spaces into vibrant and interactive environments. By embracing surrealism and innovation, 100architects has created a unique destination within Life Hub @ Daning, inviting visitors of all ages to embark on a playful journey of discovery and creativity.
